Nirbhik Bangla, Salanpur: A decomposed body of a young woman was recovered from the ECL's Banjemari Open Cast Project (OCP) mine in the Salanpur police station area on Sunday morning, creating widespread shock. Upon receiving the information, police from Salanpur police station reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Asansol District Hospital for postmortem.
Local sources said that on Sunday morning, local residents spotted the decomposed body lying in a rock crevice inside the Banjemari Open Cast Project. As the news spread, a crowd gathered at the scene. Later, one of the locals present at the spot identified the deceased by her clothing. The deceased has been identified as Purnima Bauri, daughter of Rabon Bauri, a resident of Shibdasapur area.
Raghunath Bauri, a relative of the deceased, said that Purnima was mentally somewhat unwell. She would occasionally leave home without informing anyone but would return later. However, after leaving home last Sunday, she did not return. Following this, a missing diary was filed at Salanpur police station by her family, and search operations were conducted in various places. Finally, on Sunday morning, her body was recovered from the mining area.
The incident has raised several questions. It is still unclear whether this was an accidental fall into the mine or if there is some other mystery or criminal motive behind it.
Police said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after receiving the postmortem report. Salanpur police have started an investigation, examining all aspects of the incident.
