Durgapur: Intense tension gripped the Asisnagar area under Ward 39 of the industrial town of Durgapur following the recovery of an unidentified woman's body. On Friday morning, morning walkers and local residents spotted a woman's body floating on the water in the DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation) canal adjacent to Asisnagar. As the news spread in moments, curious people gathered in the area. Various speculations began regarding who or what might be involved in this incident.
According to local sources, locals first grew suspicious on seeing something floating in the canal water in the morning. Upon going closer, it was seen to be a human body. The Durgapur Coke Oven Police Station was immediately informed. Upon receiving the news, a special police team quickly arrived at the spot. With the cooperation of the locals, the police recovered the woman's body from the canal. After a preliminary investigation, the police sent the body to the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem.
However, a deep mystery has already been created as to the exact cause of the woman's death, and questions have started to arise among the general public of the area. Is this merely an accident or is there some other sensational information behind it? The police are primarily looking into three angles—whether it is a natural death, a death by drowning, or if there is a criminal conspiracy behind it. That means investigators are also suspecting that the body might have been dumped into the DVC canal with the intent of destroying evidence after committing murder elsewhere.
Currently, the police are checking missing person diaries in all surrounding police stations to identify the deceased woman. Additionally, the police administration stated that the actual cause of death will become clear once the post-mortem report is received. Local residents have also expressed renewed concern over security and law and order in the Asisnagar area following this tragic incident.
