Despite appearing in the hearing, his name did not appear in the supplementary list and he was suffering from extreme mental pressure. He became terrified at the fear of losing his citizenship. According to family sources, he did not return home for a long time last Saturday and a search began. Later, he was rescued in unconscious condition from the side of a field in the area. When he was immediately admitted to Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital, the doctors told him that he had consumed poison. He died on Monday after two days of treatment. The deceased's wife, Gridinda Hazra said, "My husband used to work as a day laborer. But he was in great fear since his name did not appear in the voter list. He would not eat properly, would not talk to anyone. Ultimately, he committed suicide." An intense debate has started in the political circles over the incident. Durgapur East Trinamool candidate Pradip Majumdar lashed out against the Election Commission, saying, "An environment of fear has been created by raising the issue of non-compliance. Despite having valid documents, people are suffering from fear, which is giving rise to such tragic incidents." On the other hand, Bharatiya Janata Party's district spokesperson Sumant Mandal countered and alleged, "SIR has been conducted in other states, but such incidents have not happened. In this state, Trinamool is creating confusion and people are panicking. We want to assure the common people - there is no reason to fear, the Election Commission is working properly." This incident has cast a shadow of mourning on the area. At the same time, new concerns have emerged among the common people regarding the voter list.
