As soon as the first phase of voting ended in Asansol, West Bengal, a period of political violence has started in the state. A young man was brutally beaten to death late on Friday night in Ananya Complex of Asansol South police station area, which has created a sensation in the area. The deceased has been identified as Debdeep Chatterjee. It is being told that Debdeep was returning home with his wife and child, when some people already present at the gate of the complex stopped him and suddenly started fighting. During this, Debdeep and his wife appealed for help, but the people and guards present at the spot did not intervene in the matter due to fear of the attackers. According to eyewitnesses, during the fight, Debdeep took the name of Congress candidate Prasanjit Poitundi, which enraged the attackers and they continued to beat him mercilessly. The entire incident was captured on video of the CCTV camera installed in the society of the complex, while after the attackers left, the seriously injured Debdeep was taken to the hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead. As soon as information about the incident was received, Congress leader and Congress candidate from North Assembly Prasanjit Poitundi along with his supporters reached Asansol South Police Station with the dead body and started protesting demanding immediate arrest of the accused. Prasanjit Poitundi made serious allegations against Trinamool Congress and said that the deceased were close to him and were actively supporting him in the elections. For this reason he was targeted. He alleged that supporters of Trinamool councilor of the area Animesh Das carried out this incident. The Congress leader also claimed that Animesh Das has links with influential leaders in the state and that the murder was a result of political vendetta. He warned that until the accused are arrested, they will not pick up the dead bodies and will be forced to carry out aggressive agitation. After the incident, there is an atmosphere of tension in the area and the police has started investigating the matter.
