Durgapur:- With the objective of eradicating tuberculosis (TB) from the country, Lakshman Ghorui, the MLA of Durgapur West assembly constituency, has become a partner in the Central Government's 'Nikshay Mitra' program. Under this noble initiative, he has taken full responsibility for the nutrition of 50 TB patients at the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital. This program was inaugurated on Saturday through a dignified and formal event at the Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital.
Present at the event were Dr. Dhiman Mandal, Superintendent of Durgapur Sub-Divisional Hospital; Dr. Shirupa Bhattacharya, Deputy Superintendent; MLA Lakshman Ghorui; prominent social workers Parijat Ganguly and Manisha Sikdar, along with other distinguished officials of the health department and doctors.
During the event organized by the hospital, necessary nutritious food items were handed over to the TB patients. These included rice, lentils, eggs, soybeans, and other protein-rich foods. MLA Lakshman Ghorui, social worker Parijat Ganguly, and Hospital Superintendent Dhiman Mandal were personally present to hand over the food packets to the patients and inquire about their physical condition.
According to experts, TB patients require high-nutrition food along with regular medication, which is often not affordable for poor patients. This nutritional deficiency often prolongs the treatment of the disease. Therefore, the hospital doctors have praised the MLA's initiative through the Nikshay Mitra program. Such cooperation not only provides mental strength to the patients but also paves the way for a quicker recovery by ensuring a supply of nutrition alongside medical treatment. Relevant circles believe that if affluent people of society and public representatives come forward in this manner, eradicating tuberculosis from the country will become much easier.
