Nirbhik Bangla, Durgapur: Several residents of Laskarbath and Chandradanga areas of Durgapur-Faridpur block have filed a written complaint at Durgapur-Faridpur police station alleging that they were forced to pay a 'cut' from the money received for houses under the Prime Minister's housing scheme. The complainants claim that after the housing scheme funds were deposited into their bank accounts, they were made to pay around Rs 70,000 each to certain individuals. The allegations are against Ranjit Mandal, husband of a Trinamool panchayat samiti member, Kanchan Das, husband of a panchayat member, Trinamool leader Asit Hazra, and a few others. Locals allege that during the Trinamool government's tenure, they were threatened when they tried to protest against this 'cut money' practice, and that is why no one dared to speak out earlier. After the recent political change, they have gathered courage to file a written complaint with the police. They also demand a fair investigation into the matter and stringent legal action against the guilty. Complainant Kalabati Devi said, 'We received Rs 70,000 in our account for the housing scheme, but Ranjit Mandal took the entire amount. Even after paying so much money, our house has not been built yet. That's why we have come to the police station to file a complaint today.' However, there has been no response from the accused so far. The police said that they are investigating the matter based on the written complaint and will take necessary legal action after the investigation is complete.
