Fearless Bengali, Shyam Das, Asansol Cell ISP (ISCO) authorities conducted a demolition drive in the area adjacent to Barnpur station on Saturday. In this campaign, the office of Trinamool Council Ashoka Rudra of Ward No. 87 of Asansol Municipal Corporation is demolished. Besides, several Trinamool Congress party offices and club houses built on the sale land are being bulldozed. The incident created widespread panic in the area. According to SAIL authorities, the related offices and clubs were constructed by illegally occupying SAIL land. Even after giving several notices and warnings, the place was not vacated, and finally administrative action was taken. A cell official said, "No sudden operation was conducted that day. First, they were warned by notice and were given enough time to remove their belongings. Even then, those who disobeyed the instructions, action was taken against them." He further said that it had become necessary to vacate the space for future developmental work and in the interest of the general public. He indicated that there are plans to create developmental infrastructure in that area. The officer also mentioned the role of police in making the operation successful. He said, "At present, we are getting full cooperation from the police and we are able to take this step effectively. There have been raids in the past too, but this time the coordination between the administration and the police is working better." It has been claimed by the administration that this eviction campaign has been carried out in full accordance with the law and similar operations will be carried out in future also against illegal encroachment. However, no response has been received so far from Trinamool Congress on this incident. On the other hand, it has been claimed from the BJP side that due to the previous government not cooperating, the Cell ISP authorities could not carry out such a campaign. At present, after the BJP government came to power, action is being taken against illegal encroachers and land is being freed from encroachment in the interest of development of the area.
