According to the complainants, the then MP of Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, Haji Nurul Islam, had provided an ambulance for the Chakpatli health centre. Through that ambulance, pregnant mothers and seriously ill patients were taken to Basirhat district hospital and various government and private hospitals of Kolkata at nominal cost. But about a year ago, after the ambulance broke down, Pintu Mohalla took over the car from Mr. Janur Mohalla, who was in charge of the driver and maintenance of the ambulance. Allegedly, first the various components of the ambulance are disassembled and sold, then the entire vehicle is dismantled and sold in pieces. It is alleged that a written complaint has been lodged with the District Magistrate and various administrative departments along with video footage of the incident, but no action has been taken so far. The residents of the area are angry due to the inaction of the administration. In the absence of an ambulance, they are facing extreme difficulties in taking sick patients to the hospital for treatment, the complainants said. Their demand is that a new ambulance should be provided to the area immediately and the administration should take strict action against the accused TMC leader Pintu Mohalla.
