A daring burglary just a stone's throw away from Kanksa Police Station in the Durgapur industrial area has sparked intense sensation across the entire locality. On Sunday morning, widespread panic and anger spread among local residents as news broke of a break-in at a locked house in the Gangulypara area under Kanksa Police Station. The group of thieves broke the door locks of four rooms across the ground and first floors of the house, went on a rampage inside, looted everything, and fled.
According to local and police sources, the homeowner had locked up her house three days ago and gone to her daughter's residence. She was scheduled to return to her house on Sunday. However, before her return, the maid arrived at the house on Sunday morning as usual for her daily work. Upon arrival, she found the heavy lock of the main gate lying broken on the ground, the wardrobes and drawers inside the rooms open, and all belongings scattered in disarray. Shocked by the sight, she immediately informed the homeowner's family.
Upon receiving news of the incident, the homeowner's daughter, Ratna Hazra, rushed to the spot. Expressing her anger, she said, "Even on Saturday morning, I called the maid to check on the house, and everything was fine then. But coming here on Sunday morning, we witnessed this rampage." Giving an account of the losses, she stated that the miscreants broke open the wardrobe and stole nearly ₹50,000 in cash, valuable gold jewelry, and bronze and brass utensils. Not only that, the audacity of the thieves reached such an extreme that they even stole the soap and hair oil kept in the room. Questioning the role of the police, Ratna Devi said, "If a locked house so close to the police station is broken into and looted like this, where will ordinary people go to seek security? This is not the first such incident in this area; it is due to the lack of police surveillance that the thieves have become so reckless."
Local residents claimed that within the last four months alone, at least five burglary incidents have occurred in the area adjacent to Kanksa Police Station. Despite the miscreants repeatedly carrying out thefts in the same manner and escaping, the police have failed to arrest anyone. Due to this extreme lack of security, residents of the area are living in fear.
As soon as information about the incident was received, a police force from Kanksa Police Station arrived at the scene. Police officers inspected the rooms and collected preliminary information and evidence for the investigation. The police stated that a full-fledged investigation into the burglary has been initiated. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined to identify the miscreants, and efforts are underway to swiftly arrest the culprits.
