Nirbhik Bengali, Asansol, West Bengal: Allegations of illegal sand business have again surfaced around Balighat adjacent to Damodhar river in Suryanagar area of Asansol. According to local sources, under the influence of an influential leader of Trinamool Congress, a person named Parimal had been running the business of illegal sand extraction and sale for a long time. Allegedly, a depot was created on the basis of stock license for the purpose of purchasing sand and selling it to customers, although in reality the sand was not purchased from a legitimate source. Instead, sand had to be lifted illegally directly from the river ghat of Suryanagar Damodar. Later, that sand was deposited in the stock point adjacent to the river ghat and sold in the market using the invoice of a valid sand ghat in Purulia district, it is alleged. A section of local residents claim that this business was going on openly for a long time. Allegations have been raised that due to lack of monitoring and strict action by the administration, illegal sand extraction and dumping is rampant. However, it was not possible to independently verify the veracity of these allegations. Meanwhile, after the change in the political situation, the sand business activity suddenly comes to a standstill, according to the locals. At present, silence is being observed in Balighat and Stock Point areas of Suryanagar. Due to speculation in the area, fear of possible investigation or administrative action, the accused businessman is currently in hiding. Although allegations of political favors have been filed against the accused persons or persons in this matter, no response has been received from their side yet. No official comment was made by the administration. If the investigation is started after verifying the veracity of the allegations, many important details of the entire incident may come to light, it is believed that the court is investigating.
