15 year old MLA Ujwal Chatterjee's ticket canceled, said - "My game is over"

Asansol, West Bengal: A big political news has come out from Kulti assembly constituency of Asansol. Trinamool Congress has canceled the ticket of senior leader Ujwal Chatterjee, who was an MLA for 15 years, in the 2026 assembly elections and has replaced him with Abhijeet Ghatak, Deputy Mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation and brother of state minister Malay Ghatak. After this decision, mixed reactions are being seen within the party. On one hand, there is an atmosphere of happiness among some workers, on the other hand, disappointment is also seen among many supporters. Meanwhile, former MLA Ujwal Chatterjee became emotional in front of the media during the election campaign. “My game is over, now I will follow whatever orders the party gives,” he said. He also made it clear that he will go among the people of Kulti and seek votes in support of Trinamool candidate Abhijeet Ghatak and will appeal to his supporters to do the same. Let us tell you that Ujwal Chatterjee has been MLA from Kulti thrice and has also been the Chairman of ADDA (Asansol Durgapur Development Authority) twice. Presently he also holds the post of State Vice President of Trinamool. However, in the 2021 assembly elections, he had to face defeat from BJP candidate Dr. Ajay Poddar, behind which factionalism within the party was considered to be a major reason. Now after the selection of tickets for the 2026 elections, the political equations seem to be changing. While Abhijeet Ghatak, who is contesting assembly elections for the first time, has the challenge of proving himself, it has also become a big responsibility for the party to retain the Kulti seat.
