A drug-trafficking couple, who was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison, has been caught by the police again, with 24 grams of heroin recovered from their possession.

Nirbhik Bangla, Kulti: A couple from Kulti has been arrested again by the police on charges of drug trafficking, despite being previously sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. 24 grams of heroin were recovered from them. The incident has caused widespread sensation in Kulti and its surrounding areas. According to police sources, the arrested persons are Pappu Ansari and his wife Subetara Khatoon, residents of Bamundiha Madrasa Para in Niamatpur Phari area of Kulti police station. Police said that a special operation was conducted under the leadership of SI Milan Bhuiya of Niamatpur Phari, and the couple was arrested from the Isco Bypass Road area near Ranisayer More. During the search, 24 grams of heroin and some materials related to drug trafficking were recovered from them. Investigation revealed that the arrested couple had previously been charged under the NDPS Act. In 2020, the special NDPS court in Asansol found them guilty and sentenced them to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The police have started investigating the matter seriously as the couple has been accused of drug trafficking again. Police's initial assumption is that the recovered heroin is part of a larger drug trafficking ring. The accused are being interrogated to gather information about the source of the drugs, the supply network, and other individuals involved in the ring. On Thursday, the accused were produced in the Asansol court. The Kulti police will appeal for a 10-day police custody for the purpose of investigation. The investigation into the entire incident is ongoing.
