Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol: The police from Hirapur police station on Monday presented Syed Ikbal, the accused arrested on charges of cheating and keeping illegal arms, to the court. The court has been requested to grant 10 days of police remand for the accused for further investigation and interrogation of the case.
According to police sources, Syed Ikbal was arrested on the basis of Hirapur Police Station Case No. 167/26 (dated: June 20, 2026). He has been charged under sections 316(2), 318, 117(2), 3(5), and 2(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as sections 25/27 of the Arms Act.
Investigating sources claim that Syed Ikbal, a resident of the Gaurtala area, was arrested on Sunday night. The accusation is that he was involved in a cheating racket and also in the incident of keeping illegal arms.
According to the police, the accused needs to be interrogated in custody to uncover the true picture of the case, identify other individuals possibly involved in the cheating, and gather information about the source of the recovered arms. That's why the court has been requested to grant 10 days of police remand.
Investigating officers believe that by interrogating the accused, more important information about the case may come to light, and information about possible accomplices may also be revealed.
The hearing of the police remand application took place in court on Monday. The investigating team is waiting for the court's instructions. The Hirapur police station is continuing the investigation into the incident.
