Asansol: After the change of power in the state, the administration has intensified the campaign against illegal activities. Roopnarayanpur Phadi police of Salanpur police station has arrested four people while taking action against the illegal stone quarries which are being run without government permission by throwing dust in the eyes of the administration. The arrested accused were produced in Asansol court on Monday. According to police sources, another accused is still absconding in this case. According to the information received from the police, on the basis of a secret information, Roopnarayanpur Fadi police conducted sudden raids in various areas of Salanpur block on Sunday. During this period four people were arrested. The arrested accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh, Bishma Rai, Madhusudan Mandal and Rakesh Kumar Singh alias Yoginder Singh. All the accused are said to be residents of Salanpur block. However, another key accused of this gang, Mihir Ghosh, is still out of the custody of the police. Roopnarayanpur Phadi police are continuously conducting raids in search of him. According to local sources, all the accused were operating illegal stone quarries in different areas of Gempur-Uttarampur Panchayat area of Salanpur block. These mines were being operated without any government permission and following rules. On the one hand, this was causing loss of revenue to the government, while on the other hand, it was feared that there would be serious damage to the environment. The arrested accused were produced in Asansol court on Monday. Police will seek 7 days police custody of the accused to investigate the matter in depth and identify others involved in this illegal business. According to sources, the police have registered three separate cases under different sections in this matter. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
