Nirbheek Bengali, Barnpur, 7 June: Tension spread in Barnpur area over the allegation of religious conversion. Due to the demands of a section of local residents, efforts were being made to convert some people belonging to low income and tribal communities by luring them with various benefits. After knowing about the matter, the local residents arrested some of the concerned people and informed the police. Later the police reached the spot and took them to their own safety. The incident has created panic in the area. It is learned that the police are looking into the entire matter. BJP state committee member Bappa Chatterjee claimed that for a long time efforts were being made to convert various low income and tribal affected areas of Barnpur. Through his complaint, some people were encouraged to accept Christianity by promising financial assistance and other benefits. But it was not possible to independently verify the veracity of his allegation. Meanwhile, BJP core committee member Pawan Singh alleged that women in the area, especially, were being encouraged to apply for religious conversion. He claimed that the local people should raise their objection on the matter and hand over the concerned persons to the police. On the other hand, the statements of those against whom this allegation has been made have not been received yet. There was no official response from the Christian Mission or any related organization. As a result, it is not possible to say anything with certainty about the veracity of the allegations. Police sources said that all aspects of the incident are being investigated. After investigation, a clear idea about the actual incident will be available.
