In a major administrative reshuffle in the police department, the state government has appointed senior IPS officer Piyush Pandey as the acting Director General of Police (DGP) of the state. Along with him, a total of 24 IPS officers have been transferred and new appointments have been made. According to the government order, Piyush Pandey has been given the responsibility of DGP with immediate effect in view of the existing system. Police commissioners of all the commissionerates of the state except Asansol Durgapur police were changed. According to administrative sources, this change has been made with the aim of further strengthening law and order and speeding up policing. In this reshuffle, Superintendents of Police, Range DIGs and departmental heads of many districts have been given new responsibilities, while some officers have been removed from important posts and posted at other places. It is believed that the government has taken this step keeping in mind the upcoming challenges and administrative needs.
