Kolkata, West Bengal's former Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has raised serious questions about the functioning of the police in the state after the change of power. She alleged that the state police are not working impartially and are taking action under the influence of the BJP. Mamata Banerjee said that many police officers are behaving like BJP leaders. She alleged that "some ICs have become block presidents of the BJP and some ACPs are working like district presidents of the BJP." She also said that the job of the police is to maintain law and order, not to work on the instructions of any political party. After Mamata Banerjee's statement, the possibility of a round of allegations and counter-allegations in the state's politics is likely to intensify. However, no immediate official reaction has come from the state government or the police on these allegations.
