Today at 1:22 pm, East India was shaken by the Nagarabad earthquake. Tremors were felt in wide areas of the state including Kolkata, Howrah, North 24 Pargana and South 24 Pargana. Eyewitnesses claim that a strong tremor was felt for a few seconds. In fear, many people came out of their homes and offices and took to the streets. According to preliminary reports, the epicenter of the earthquake was Myanmar region. It is known to have affected many districts of eastern India as well as neighboring Bangladesh. The intensity of the tremors has hit a house in Kolkata's Ganesh Chandra Avenue area, claimed local sources. However, till now no official confirmed information about major damage has been found. The situation is being monitored by the administration and necessary warnings have been issued. According to earthquake experts, despite the remote source, it is not unusual for earthquake waves to travel a long distance and be felt in this area. Even if the situation is normal at present, the possibility of an aftershock is not to be ruled out, experts have warned.
