Orders have been issued to close all liquor shops in West Vandaman district before the scheduled time, i.e. 96 hours before the voting. Since this order came into effect on Sunday night, liquor shops remained closed everywhere in the district from Monday morning. Earlier, the Election Commission and the State Excise Department had issued instructions to keep liquor shops closed for 48 hours before voting. But suddenly that time limit was extended to 96 hours, putting the common buyers under pressure. Many were disappointed to see shops closed on Monday morning. The shop owners claimed, “The shops have been closed as per the instructions of the Municipal Corporation, we do not have anything to do.” According to administrative sources, the demand for liquor suddenly increased abnormally before the elections. In this situation, this tough decision has been taken to avoid influencing the voters or creating unrest. Not only shops, but also government depots have been ordered to stop the supply of liquor. Note that on April 23, the first phase of voting will be held in 16 districts of the state. There are 9 seats in West Vandhaman district. Meanwhile, the biggest problems faced by this sudden decision are the regular drinkers. Many had initially planned to keep buying liquor, but with the closure of liquor shops it became no longer possible. As a result, this instruction is like 'Bina Meghghe Jrapchat' for many people.
