Sensation has spread in the industrial town of Durgapur following an incident of theft where gold jewelry worth lakhs of rupees was stolen from a wardrobe using a master key. This audacious daylight theft in a crowded area has caused extreme panic and anxiety among the locals. The incident has triggered intense shock in the Nivedita Place area of Benachity under the Durgapur police station jurisdiction.
According to local sources, the theft took place at the residence of Mohan Bandyopadhyay, a contractor by profession and a resident of Nivedita Place. Last Wednesday, all family members were away from home for various chores. The miscreants capitalized on this opportunity according to a plan. Mohanbabu's wife and son had gone to a nearby religious ashram, while Mohanbabu himself had gone to the cremation ground. At that exact time, the house was practically empty, and this vacant house was targeted by the thieves.
According to further information from the family, the miscreants entered the house very craftily. Strangely, there were no signs of the room's wardrobe being broken. It is suspected that instead of the original key, a 'master key' or skeleton key was used to open the wardrobe. Along with opening the wardrobe, the entire room and the bed were ransacked. The family claims that more than ten bhoris of gold ornaments were stolen from the wardrobe. These included valuable jewelry belonging to Mohanbabu's wife, son, and mother-in-law. Along with the jewelry, cash kept in the house was also looted.
Such an incident of breaking into an empty house in broad daylight and stealing property worth lakhs has raised questions about the security of the area. Upon receiving news of the incident, police officers from the Durgapur police station promptly arrived at the scene. The police have started an investigation into the entire incident.
