Nirbhik Bangla, Andal: Maintaining political and administrative stability in the important Ukhra Gram Panchayat of Andal block, Kajal Pandey has been unanimously elected as the new Deputy Chief (Upapradhan). A special meeting for the election of the Deputy Chief was held on Tuesday afternoon at the panchayat conference hall. Based on the unanimous opinion of the panchayat members in this meeting, Kajal Pandey was chosen as the new Deputy Chief, which is considered very significant in local political circles.
Notably, following the 2023 panchayat elections in the Trinamool Congress-run Ukhra Gram Panchayat, Mina Kole was elected as the Chief through member voting, and the crucial responsibility of Deputy Chief was given to Sharan Saigal. However, on the 4th of last month, citing physical illness and personal reasons, Sharan Saigal resigned from the post of Deputy Chief. As a result, the seat of the Deputy Chief fell vacant, leading to a temporary stagnation in the area's development work and administrative activities. To overcome this situation, panchayat members submitted a written application to the BDO of Andal block to immediately elect a new Deputy Chief.
As per the scheduled program, this election process was completed at the panchayat building on Tuesday. To keep the entire process peaceful and transparent, prominent administrative officials Soumendranath Mondal and PDO Sabyasachi Chakraborty were present. Administrative official Soumendranath Mondal told the media that out of the total 26 incumbent members of the panchayat, 24 members were present at today's important meeting. Following the prescribed procedure, panchayat member Dayamay Singh proposed the name of Kajal Pandey for the post of Deputy Chief, and Anil Kumar Barnwal seconded the proposal. Since no other candidate's name was proposed by the opposition or any other party, Kajal Pandey was declared unopposed and unanimously as the new Deputy Chief of Ukhra Gram Panchayat.
As soon as the election process was successfully completed, widespread enthusiasm and joy were seen among the present panchayat members and Trinamool workers-supporters. Colleagues congratulated the new Deputy Chief by offering sweets. Local residents hope that with Kajal Pandey taking up this new responsibility, the stalled works of the panchayat will now gain rapid momentum.
After taking over the charge, the new Deputy Chief Kajal Pandey said in his reaction, "Due to the post of Deputy Chief remaining vacant for the past few days, there were some problems in the daily functioning of the panchayat and common people had to wait for various services. Now, keeping a close eye on the all-round development of the area and ensuring that various public welfare services of the state government reach the doorstep of every person in a transparent and normal rhythm, I will work shoulder to shoulder with the party leadership."
