Bankura Excise Department has achieved a major success in a secret operation. Alongside continuous operations against illicit liquor, the excise department has now started taking strict action against the smuggling syndicate dealing in raw materials used for making liquor. Acting on a tip-off, the Bankura Excise Department conducted a raid and recovered 80 tins of liquid jaggery along with a huge quantity of equipment used for brewing illicit liquor. One person has been arrested in connection with this incident, and he is being interrogated to trace the masterminds behind this illegal smuggling syndicate.
It has been alleged that the illegal trade of illicit liquor has been flourishing in various parts of Bankura district for a long time. Although the excise department regularly destroys hundreds of liters of illicit liquor through raids, this social menace could not be completely eradicated. Therefore, the administration has now adopted a strategy to break the supply chain of raw materials in addition to targeting the finished product.
Based on confidential information, excise officials learned that a huge quantity of materials for making illicit liquor was being smuggled secretly in a vehicle. Accordingly, a 'Chota Hathi' vehicle was intercepted and searched in the Dumurjhuri area of Bankura. As soon as the officers stopped the vehicle and began searching, they were left wide-eyed in astonishment. One by one, 80 tins of liquid jaggery—which is one of the main raw materials for making illicit liquor—were recovered from the vehicle. Along with the jaggery, various chemicals and other equipment used for brewing illicit liquor were also seized.
During primary investigation, excise officials learned that this huge quantity of jaggery and other materials was being stealthily transported with the intention of supplying them to the breeding grounds of illegal liquor manufacturing. The driver of the vehicle has been detained and interrogation has begun. Investigators are looking into who else is involved in this syndicate and to which specific areas of the district these raw materials were planned to be supplied.
Local conscious citizens are pleased with this step taken by the Bankura Excise Department. According to them, if the smuggling of such raw materials can be completely curbed instead of just destroying the manufactured liquor, only then can the flourishing business of illegal liquor be permanently shut down. The excise department has also stated that such operations against illicit liquor will be intensified in the coming days.
