ECL eviction drive: Around 20 houses bulldozed in Sreepur-Satgram area

Nirbhik Bangla, Asansol: An eviction drive was carried out at Girmit 40 number in Sripur-Satgram area of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) under Asansol North police station on Tuesday. With the help of bulldozers, around 20 houses were demolished to remove illegal occupation from ECL land. It is known that on July 22, 2026, notices (leaflets) were distributed to the residents by ECL to remove illegal occupation in the area. The eviction drive started on the basis of that notice. During the operation, a large police force of CISF and Asansol North police station was deployed to maintain law and order. Due to strict security arrangements, the entire operation was completed peacefully. ECL officials Apurba Biswas, Joyshree Yadav, and Sanjay Chatterjee were present at the scene. The ECL authorities said that the eviction drive was carried out as per the notice issued earlier. With the help of the administration, the operation was successfully completed in a peaceful environment. It is worth noting that ECL has been continuously carrying out eviction drives in various areas to prevent illegal occupation of its land. The operation in Sripur-Satgram is also a part of that series.
