A massive fire broke out in the Naphtha pipeline in Haldia, injuring several workers

Nirbheek Bengali, Haldia, June 30: A major fire incident took place in a pipeline supplying water in Haldia, East Medinipur, on Tuesday morning. As per preliminary information, the fire started from a leak in the pipeline near Nagarpur area of ​​Chirnjdpur area around 5 am. The place of occurrence is the area adjacent to the refinery of Haldia Petrochemicals and Indian Oil Corporation. The fire spread quickly and many workers working on the side of the pipeline got burnt. According to preliminary information, 7 to 15 people have been injured. At least 10 of them have been admitted to Haldiya Mahkuma Hospital and Tamluk Medical College Hospital. There have also been reports of some people not being found, although this has not yet been finally confirmed by the administration. Due to the intensity of the fire, some houses nearby were also damaged. Besides, as the pipeline passes along the railway line, train movement on the Haodha-Haldia route is temporarily stopped in the interest of safety. On receiving the news, two fire engines first reached the spot. Later more engines were brought and a total of 12 fire engines worked to control the fire. After long efforts the fire was largely controlled. Preliminary investigation has confirmed that the fire started due to a leak, however, it is being speculated as to how the leak occurred and whether there is any other reason or possibility of terrorism behind it. Police, fire brigade and related authorities are investigating the same. Technical teams from Haldia Petrochemicals and Indian Oil Corporation are present at the spot and monitoring the situation. As informed by the administration, medical arrangements have been made for the injured and a full investigation into the incident has begun. The situation is being monitored.
