Nirbhik Bangla, Raniganj: Tension has arisen in Raniganj, West Burdwan, over a labor movement at the Jay Balaji company located in the Mangalpur industrial area. Workers have been protesting for several days, demanding equal pay for equal work, ESI, PF, and safety in the workplace, among other things.
The workers allege that their legitimate demands have been ignored for a long time. They have been protesting to have these demands met. According to the workers, the company authorities held a meeting with the worker representatives due to the protest and assured that some of the demands would be met.
However, the workers allege that after the meeting, on Tuesday night, there was a altercation and scuffle between some workers and the company's security guards. Several workers were injured in the incident. Later, the police arrested two workers involved in the protest.
In protest of the arrest of the two workers, the workers again joined the protest from Wednesday morning. They stopped work at the factory and demanded the immediate release of the arrested workers and the speedy implementation of their previous demands.
A large police force has been deployed at the scene to control the situation. The entire industrial area has been tense over the incident.
However, until the writing of this report, no official response has been received from the company authorities or the police regarding the incident.
