The Sigaran River Save Movement, assurance of solution in meeting with factory authorities

Fearless Bengali, Jammu: Save River Committee organized a protest program in front of the CRM unit of shyamsteel.in located in the Ghoot Bangalo area of ​​Jammu Industrial Area on Saturday, in demand of conservation of river Sighran and pollution free environment. The protesters allege that in the last few years, due to massive encroachment and illegal construction on both the banks of the river, the natural flow of the river has been disrupted and the natural environment has been seriously damaged. Their demand is that all illegal encroachments and constructions along the river banks should be immediately removed and the river should be returned to its previous state. The protesters further alleged that river pollution has increased due to various activities in the industrial area. Therefore, they demanded the factory authorities to take active role in keeping the river clean and pollution free and ensure effective waste management. During the protest programme, the protesters raised various slogans demanding protection of the river. Later, a meeting was held between the factory authorities and the representatives of the River Save Committee. Various issues raised by the protesters were discussed in the meeting. The factory authorities assure to consider the claims and complaints seriously and take necessary steps to resolve the problems. But the Save River Committee has informed that they will keep an eye on the situation and will not be satisfied with mere assurances. If the demands are not implemented soon, the protesters have warned of embarking on a bigger agitation in the coming days. This movement focusing on the conservation of Sighran river has brought forward the issue of environmental protection and river restoration in the area. Now the focus will be on the next steps of the factory authorities and administration.
