Nirbhik Bengali, East Medhipur: To make the overall development of the district more dynamic, a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) was held at the East Medhipur District Council building. MPs, MLAs, top officials of the administration and representatives of various departments were present in the meeting. There are detailed discussions on many important issues including district planning, agriculture, tourism, industry and water management. This 'Disha' meeting was organized after various development plans of the district were discussed in the administrative meeting held recently in Digha. Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Soumendu Adhikari, several MLAs, District Magistrates, Additional District Magistrates and officials of various government offices were present in the meeting. After the meeting, MP Soumendu Adhikari said, "Disha Committee meeting was held almost every six-seven years. We became MP in 2024, but did not know about any such meeting in the last two years. After the formation of the new government, this meeting has given us the opportunity to discuss various problems of the district and find solutions." He further said, there is huge potential for tourism, industry, fishing, paddy, betel and flower farming in East Medinipur. Utilizing that potential, various proposals and plans were discussed for the economic and social development of the district. On the other hand, State Deputy Minister Arup Das said, "The present government has adopted the policy of taking everyone along in the question of development. Development is not a matter of any political party, it is related to the interests of the people of Bengal. Therefore, due importance is being given to the public representatives and administrative discussions of the opposition parties." Regarding water scarcity problem, he said that various plans have been adopted for long term solution. Especially initiatives are being taken to complete the Ghatal Master Plan work quickly. There was also discussion about increasing coordination with Damodar Valley Corporation to make water management more effective. In this 'Disha' meeting held after a long time, positive response was seen from the administrative and political circles due to detailed discussion on various developmental projects, structural problems and future planning of the district. The concerned authorities expressed hope that the pace of development of the district will increase further.
