Fearless Bengali, Jammu and Kashmir: After the rain on Saturday evening, a large amount of smoke has started coming out from the area of New Kendah Colliery in New Kendah Colliery area of ICL (Open Cast Project) area, which has created panic and panic in the surrounding areas. Smoke covers large areas of OCP, raising safety concerns among local residents. Adjacent to OCP, Saldanga Mandal Pada and Bauri Pada are inhabited by hundreds of people. When incidents of smoke emission came to light, residents expressed concerns about their safety. Local resident Amarjee Mandal said that about eight months ago, there was an incident of smoke coming out from the same OCP. At that time, on behalf of the local residents, a demand was made to the ECL authorities for the rehabilitation of people from the surrounding area to a safe place. But till now there has been no permanent solution to that claim. His claim is that the incident of smoke emission again on Saturday proves that the situation is still dangerous. He said, "Adequate fencing arrangements have not yet been made around such a large dangerous area. As a result, there is concern about the safety of humans and livestock. Incidents of animals falling into the trap often occur." Note that on January 25, 1994, 55 people died in a massive fire at the New Kendra Colliery in one night. Locals claim that the effects of that fire still exist underground. Due to this, incidents like cracking of the ground, feeling of heat of fire and emission of smoke took place. According to local sources, sometimes cracks in the soil open up after heavy rains. As a result, the underground fire comes in contact with oxygen and becomes more active and smoke starts emitting. It is reported that work at OCP has been stopped after the incident of smoke coming out. The smoke emission continued till the time of writing the news. But there is no definite information available regarding whether any official of ICL authority reached the spot or not. Demands of local residents, necessary security measures should be taken by quickly reviewing the situation to avoid possible danger and ensuring the safety of residents of risky areas.
