Nirbhik Bangla, Raniganj: The police of Raniganj police station of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate have arrested Siddhan Mandal, the deputy head of Ballavpur Gram Panchayat in Raniganj block. His arrest has sparked political discussions in the area. Allegations have surfaced against him, including beating up BJP workers, threatening them, attacking opposition party workers and supporters during elections, sand smuggling, and various financial irregularities and corruption in the panchayat. According to police sources, an investigation was underway based on multiple allegations, and this arrest was made in connection with that. Parimal Maji, the president of the Asansol South Rural area of the BJP, claims that Siddhan Mandal was involved in intimidating and attacking opposition party leaders and workers during various elections using his political influence. He says, "The allegations of injustice, torture, corruption, and looting against Trinamool leaders and workers across West Bengal are resulting in one leader after another being caught by the police. The number of such arrests will increase in the coming days." However, Siddhan Mandal has completely denied all the allegations against him, claiming that he has been falsely implicated in a case for political reasons. He says, "There is no basis for the allegations against me. I am being framed in a conspiracy." Although the political temperature has risen over the incident, the police administration has not made any detailed comments for the sake of the investigation. The political circles are keeping an eye on the progress of the investigation.
