On Thursday, the ISP authorities faced strong protests from local owners and businessmen when they conducted a campaign in the area to remove illegal encroachment. Due to the situation, the concerned authorities stop the operation midway and return. When an ISP official was contacted on this matter, he said that he is not authorized to answer the questions of journalists. But he said, as per the instructions of the ISP management, they came to the area to remove illegal encroachment. But due to strong opposition from the local people, it was not possible to conduct the operation and it has been put on hold. On the other hand, CPI(M) leader Shilpi Chakraborty, who was present at the spot, said that modernization of ISP is definitely a welcome initiative. However, the eviction of all the traders and small businessmen who have been earning their living here for decades and on whose land this industrial area has come up, without rehabilitation cannot be accepted in any way. He further alleged that the area MLA and State Minister Agnimitra Pal, who recently visited the area, did not find time to talk to the workers. Their demand is that unless arrangements are made for alternative accommodation and rehabilitation of the affected people, they will not be uprooted. A wide discussion has started in the political and social circles of the area focusing on the incident. Now the focus is on how to coordinate the future of the owners and the development project of the ISP.
