Fearless Bengali, Raneeganj: The incident of fire in a furniture shop located in a populated area spread panic in the Raneeganj area. There is a fear of massive damage in this incident that happened on Saturday night. Eyewitnesses claim, around 10 pm thick smoke was seen coming out from the shop. Within moments, smoke covered the surrounding area. As soon as the matter comes to their notice, local residents inform the fire department. On receiving the news, two fire engines quickly reached the spot and started the work of bringing the fire under control. Due to the high intensity of the fire, fire brigade personnel, police administration, power station employees and local residents also cooperated in rescue and control work. Initial guess of the local people is that the wooden furniture inside the shop caught fire due to short circuit. Due to the abundance of combustible material, the fire spread quickly and the situation became complicated. Fire sources have said that it is possible to bring the fire under control with efforts of a few hours. The work of extinguishing the fire continued till about 2 am in the night. Initially it is believed that the shop has suffered a loss of lakhs of rupees in this fire. But investigation has been started to know the exact extent of damage and the actual cause of the fire. “Detailed information will come out after reviewing the situation in the light of day,” the administration source said. Although the incident created widespread panic in the area, no casualties were reported. Local residents feel that it was possible to avoid a major accident due to prompt response of fire brigade.
