Kulti: Railway administration again launched demolition drive on the land adjacent to the railway land in Baltodiya village of ward number 66 of Kultiir in West Vandhaman district. On Saturday morning, the administration took the bulldozer to clear the illegal encroachment.
It is learned that some local residents had been living and building houses on the railway land for a long time. Railway authorities issued notices to those residents several times to vacate the land and they continued to stay there.
According to local sources, before the elections, Kultir MLA Dr. Ajay Poddar was able to temporarily suspend the eviction campaign by discussing with the railway administration. But after the election phase was over, the railway authorities started the campaign again and demolished many houses with bulldozers.
Meanwhile, on Friday morning, an application was submitted to the District Magistrate on behalf of the National Congress to stop the eviction operation until arrangements for rehabilitation are made. But within 24 hours the railway administration again started the evacuation operation.
In this operation on Saturday, railway administration officials as well as railway police were present. Security arrangements are strengthened in the area to maintain law and order.
The uprooted families claim that their homes have been demolished without making arrangements for alternative rehabilitation. On the other hand, according to the Railway Administration, this campaign is being carried out following the rules with the aim of freeing government land from encroachment.
The incident has created panic in the area. Discussions have started in political circles around resettlement and eviction.State
