This time the administration has taken a tough stand around the historical and most famous reservoir of Raniganj – ‘Rajbandh Pond’. The administration has taken initiative in restoring this pond which has been in crisis due to illegal encroachment, filling and mismanagement for a long time. On Monday, Rani Ganj MLA Partha Ghosh along with administrative officials visited the Achmakai Pukur area and told them in clear words – illegal occupation of even an inch of the Pukur land will not be tolerated.
On this day, present along with the MLA were the officers of Raniganj Bilro office, IC of Raniganj police station along with other representatives of the administration and many local residents. The MLA expresses concern after looking at the current condition of this huge pond which is spread over about 121 acres.
After the visit, Partha Ghosh, while facing the media, said, "Rajbandh pond is a part of the tradition of Ranniganj. Once upon a time, various religious ceremonies were held here. Many people used to use the water of this pond. Besides, due to extensive fish farming here, the price of fish in the Ranniganj market had reduced to a great extent. Today, that traditional pond is facing destruction."
He further said that very soon the official measurement of the entire 121 acres of land will be done by the administration. The MLA has given a strong message to those who have encroached upon the pond land and made illegal constructions, saying, "Those who know that their construction has taken place on the pond land, they should remove it themselves. If illegal encroachment is detected as per the administrative measure, strict action will be taken as per the law."
This sudden visit of the MLA and active role of the administration has already created havoc in the area. There is panic among those involved in illegal construction, says local source news. On the other hand, the local residents are optimistic about this initiative of the administration. According to him, if immediate action is taken, Rajbandh Pukur can regain its old tradition and environment.Politics
