Promise kept after oath: MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee reached Bastin Bazaar Durga temple, worshiped Goddess Durga along with Kanya Puja.

Asansol, After winning the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 and taking oath, BJP's newly elected North Assembly MLA Krishnendu Mukherjee once again reached the historical Durga temple located in Bastin Bazaar of Asansol on Sunday. The entire area echoed with slogans of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Mata Di” to welcome the MLA who reached the temple with band and supporters. After reaching the temple courtyard, Krishnandu Mukherjee performed special worship of Maa Durga. Since the idol of Maa Durga is not installed in the temple at present, her image is worshipped. In such a situation, the MLA duly worshiped the image of Maa Durga along with 9 girls in the form of Durga. The girls were also given clothes, make-up material, fruits, sweets and food. On this occasion, Krishnandu Mukherjee said that this temple was closed for about 75 years due to various disputes and was opened only three-four times a year during puja. He alleged that an attempt was made to build a hotel by occupying the temple land, but the Sanatani people of the area fought and saved the temple. He said that during the 2021 assembly elections itself, he had promised the public that if he becomes MLA, he will open the doors of this temple forever, so that people can worship without fear and apprehension. Although he could not win the elections in 2021, but after the victory in 2026, the first thing he did was to reach the temple, get the lock opened and offer prayers. Krishnandu Mukherjee said that after the swearing-in ceremony, he fulfilled the promise he had made to visit the temple on May 9 and perform a grand puja. He said that at present there is no idol of Maa Durga in the temple, but very soon the idol will be formally installed. During this time BJP leader Krishna Prasad was also present. He said that now regular puja will be held in the temple every day and preparations for the installation of the idol of Maa Durga are going on at a fast pace, which will be completed soon.
