Asansole, West Bengal: The doors of the more than 80 years old Maa Durga Temple located in Bastin Bazaar of Asansole North Assembly have finally been completely opened for the general devotees after 15 years. Regular worship has started again in this temple which was closed for a long time due to property disputes and administrative complications. Since morning many devotees come to the temple and worship Maa Durga. Local residents and the temple committee claim that the dispute over the temple land was going on for a long time. Allegation, an influential person of the area planned to take over the temple land and build a hotel there. That is why the temple was opened only on three-four special days of the year, the rest of the time the doors of the temple remained closed. As a result, ordinary devotees did not get the opportunity to light lamps or worship regularly. Complaints lodged by the temple committee and the local residents, they approached the administration, public representatives and police several times but did not get any permanent solution. Meanwhile, during the 2026 assembly elections, BJP candidate Krishnandu Mukherjee came to the temple and offered puja and promised that if he wins, he will open the doors of the temple permanently and arrange regular pujas. After winning the elections by a huge vote, Krishnandu Mukherjee reached the temple with supporters and local residents on Monday. In his presence the doors of the temple are opened and regular worship begins again. There was a crowd of devotees in the temple since morning. Apart from visiting Maa Durghar, many also wished the newly elected MLA. A festive atmosphere has been created in the entire Bastin Bazaar area with the opening of the temple. The area becomes famous due to the sound of shankha, bell sounds and “Jayah Ma Durga” sound.
