Nirbhik Bengali, Asansol: Peaceful and tourist-favorite Maithon reservoir - again a picture of peace. Two local boat drivers were seriously injured after being attacked by young youth in the 'firing spot' area on Sunday afternoon. They were brutally attacked with charges, sticks and 'metal punches'. According to local sources, a group of foreign youths were sitting in that area and drinking alcohol in the afternoon. Not only this, they go into the water body half naked and start behaving uncivilized. Protesting against this scene are two boat drivers from Kalipathar – Jamshed Ansari and Nizamuddin Minja. Those youth became angry in complaining and protesting. They called and called more friends and jumped on the two boat drivers. These people are beaten with sticks and punches, causing serious injuries on the head and various parts of the body. Local residents came running screaming. Sensing their presence, the attackers fled the area. Two people in seriously injured condition were rescued and immediately admitted to Pithakaree hospital. The injured claim that despite calling the police repeatedly at the time of the incident, they did not get any help. Later they themselves went to Kalyaneshwari Phaundi and filed a written complaint. According to police sources, investigation has been started based on the complaint and efforts are underway to identify the culprits. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked intense anger among the locals. Their claim is that if the accused are not immediately arrested and given severe punishment, the image of Maithon as a tourist center will be tarnished. Due to lack of protection, the livelihood of the local people can be severely affected. The question arises - Is Maithon gradually turning into a den of evildoers due to carelessness?
