Nirbheek Bengali, own correspondent, Asansol: Amidst the election campaign in Kulti assembly constituency of West Vandhaman district, political pressure has started regarding the municipal administration. BJP and Trinamool Congress have come face to face on this issue before the upcoming assembly elections. During the campaign on Sunday, BJP MLA and candidate Dr. Ajay Kumar Podar faced the journalists and said that if the BJP government is formed in the state, the Asansol Municipal Corporation will be dissolved and Kulti Municipality will be formed again. His complaint is that in the present system, additional tax burden is being imposed on the common people, but services are not being provided accordingly. Especially highlighting the problem of drinking water, he said, “Jal is not being supplied properly with tenfold tax – this exploitation will not be allowed to continue further.” Trinamool Congress's Kulatti candidate Abhishek Ghatak responded to this comment. Criticizing BJP, he said, "BJP is pushing the country's development backwards. Today, common people are again forced to cook using wood fire." His claim is that in the last five years, Kulti has lagged behind by almost ten years and the present BJP MLA is playing politics of delaying the area instead of developing it. Before the elections, such comments and counter comments are increasing the political tension in Kulti assembly area. It is clear that municipal services, tax system and development at the local level have become the main issues of voting.
