Fearless Bengali, Andal: A section of local residents erupted into protest after suddenly disconnecting the electricity connection in Andaler Khandara Colliery area. This incident created tension in the area on Thursday. According to local sources, ECL authorities launched a campaign to disconnect electricity connections to the homes of illegal encroachers. Due to this, many families in the area suddenly became without electricity and the residents faced extreme problems. In protest, the locals started protesting by storming the colliery. A large number of men and women took part in the protest. Police reached the spot to control the situation. Trinamool leader Ganesh Badyakar stood beside the protesters. He complains that the central body ECL is taking such steps to create problems for the common people. According to him, ECL is responsible for providing various basic services including water and electricity up to five kilometers around the colliery and mine area. So he raised questions as to why the electricity connection was suddenly disconnected. Area resident Mr. Chatterjee said that he has been living in this area for about 30-35 years. They were in dire straits due to the sudden disconnection of electricity connection. According to him, some employees of ICL are renting their quarters to others and are using various electrical equipments including AC, cooler etc. Even though they live day to day with just one light and a fan, the electricity connection to their house has been disconnected. However, no response from ECL authorities regarding this incident has been received yet.
