নির্ভীক বাংলা আসানসোল Breath: The death of Iran's 86-year-old supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has cast a pall of mourning among the Iranian community living in Bengali. It is learned that he died in a joint attack between Israel and America on February 28, 2026. Later on March 1, the Iranian government officially confirmed the news of his death. After this, Mojtaba Khamenei's name has been announced as the next supreme leader of Iran. After this incident, tense situation still persists in Iran. On the other hand, Iran is responding to the attack on them. As a result, there is speculation in the international community about which direction this conflict will take in the future. Meanwhile, an atmosphere of deep mourning has been created among the Iranian community who have been living in India, especially in West Bengal, for many years. It has been decided by the community that they will not organize any festival or celebration during the current month of Ramzan and Eid. They also announced to observe mourning for 40 days by hanging a black flag in front of their house. People of the Iranian community living in various areas of Asansol including Pandaveshwar, Murshidabad, Adra and Hooghly districts of Puruliya are expressing their grief by hanging black flags in front of their houses. 70 year old Rustam Ali Khan, a resident of Irani Basti of Pandaveshwar, said that he was born in Bengali. According to him, his ancestors came to India from Iran during the Mughal period. Presently his family members are living in various states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, apart from West Bengal. He further said that the main occupation of the people of his community was the business of stone beads, spectacles, jewellery, bangles and cosmetics, which many still do. Rustam Ali Khan claims that this land was given to him by the Government of Iran for his ancestors to live. Along with the Madrasa and Mosque, houses for living are also built there. He said, currently he has all types of Indian documents including Aadhar Card, Voter ID, PAN Card. Apart from this, they are also getting the benefits of various projects of the Central and State Government. Rustam Ali Khan says, they feel proud to identify themselves as “Indian Iranians”.
