Asansol: After five days of the festival of colors, Kultir's sweet village again participated in the festival of colors. The traditional Pancham Dhol festival took place on Sunday in the tune of ঢুলিবাদ্য and Sainaai, with colorful ভিরির flying in the wind. Preparations for this special festival begin at the time of Chaturthi moon rising after Dhol Purnima. After the completion of Chachar i.e. Gholika Daban on Saturday, Puncham Dol is born on Sunday. This festival begins with a special puja of the family deity of Chhattraj family, Basudebchandra Ji. This ancient custom and tradition has been followed in Mithani village for more than 200 years. On the occasion of the festival, the temple was illuminated with lights for two days. From the temple, Basudeb Chandra Ji along with two other family deities Lakshmi Narayan Ji and Damodhar Chandra Ji are taken around the village through a colorful procession. When the procession reaches the end of the village, after the sacrificial fire, Holika Dabang and fireworks are organized. On Sunday, the villagers got involved in the festival of colors by playing cards with Basudeb Chandra Ji. Boys and girls, young men and women and brides all took part in the joy together. Though once confined only to the Chhattraj family, in the last few years this Pancham Dhol festival has become universal. Villagers claim, this special custom of Panchham Dhol festival is more prevalent in sweet villages in the district, although this festival is also prevalent in Baankudupur area.
