Andal, West Vandaman: On one hand, there is acute shortage of drinking water in the mining and industrial areas, on the other hand, there is increasing anger among the local people due to continuous wastage of water due to leakage of pipeline. According to local sources, Andaler Kajodha region has been facing water crisis for a long time. To solve the problem, under the initiative of the state government, water is being extracted from an abandoned open mouth mine of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) located in Madanpur Panchayat area and is being purified and supplied to the pipeline of Public Welfare Department (PHE). As a result, many people have benefited but now new problems have emerged. Complaint, due to leakage in pipelines at various places, water has been flowing continuously since last one and a half months. Just as there is wastage of water, residents claim that adequate water is not reaching many areas. Despite their complaint and matter being reported to the department, there is still no permanent solution. In this regard, local Trinamool leader Parth Dewasi said that he received the news of leakage from the residents. He said that the state government has taken special measures to reduce the water level due to open mouth mining. Besides, efforts will be taken to resolve the problem by re-inspecting the agency through which the pipeline work was done and the matter will be reported to Andal Bidi, he assured. Meanwhile, locals have raised demands for quick leakage repair. His statement was that where we are facing water crisis every day, such waste of water cannot be accepted in any way.
