Abhijith Hazra, Howda: Under the supervision of Rising Voice Foundation and initiative of ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fiber Engineering and Technology, a special 15 day long special training workshop was recently organized in the month of February. The training is held in Makardah, Domjur, Howrah areas. The main objective of this training camp was to make women belonging to the Phafili caste who are lagging behind in the society and victims of domestic violence, financially independent. A total of 20 women are given hands-on training on paper craft. In this handicraft-centred workshop, techniques for making eco-friendly ornaments made from daily use items, various home decor items and patta are taught. The training is conducted under the direction of the director of the institute. During the training, the participating women expressed their unexpressed desires and dreams of becoming self-reliant through hand-made artworks. Scientists Sujay Das and Karthik Samant were present at the event and highlighted important information about the business potential and marketing strategy of the cotton industry and encouraged the women. On the last day, Moumita Das, Head of Rising Voice Foundation, congratulated the trainees and handed over certificates and officially declared the training session over.
