Political tension has arisen for the last two days over the installation of the statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar at the Niyamatpur ICO complex in Asansol. When the Barnpur Cell ISP (ISCO) authorities announced the plan to install Ambedkar's statue at the vacant site, incidents of fighting, violence and scuffles broke out between TMC and BJP workers-supporters.
The situation became heated after the incident. BJP MLA Dr. Amjaya Kumar Poddar said in a press conference at Kulti Club on Tuesday afternoon that the work of installing the statue will be done by the ICO authorities on 20th and no BJP workers, supporters or leadership will be present there.
Later, on the same day at around 9 pm, Trinamool Congress held a press conference in the presence of the district leadership and block president at the Trinamool office in Nagaland Niamatpur. It is also said that on 20th date, when the ICO authorities will do the work of installing the statue, no one from TMC will be present there.
As a result, the tense situation that had arisen in Niamatpur after this announcement by the two parties has calmed down for the time being. The administration is said to be keeping an eye on the situation.State
