Fearless Bengali Shyam Das Asansol: Three years ago, under the initiative of Asansol Municipal Corporation, 42 temporary shops were demolished opposite St. Mary's School. At that time, the municipality had given assurance of rehabilitation, but till now only one shopkeeper has been given space to open a nursery, it is alleged. The remaining 41 shopkeepers are angry at not getting reinstatement. On Saturday morning they came together and joined the protest. This protest program was organized under the leadership of Trinamool Congress leader Raju Walia. The protesters claim that rehabilitation arrangements will have to be made immediately. According to the shopkeepers, at the time of eviction the administration had promised to provide them alternative places. But after three long years, most of them did not get any arrangement. Due to this their livelihood has been greatly damaged. The protesters have warned that if there is no immediate solution, they will take part in a larger protest with their families within the next week. There is still no official response from the Municipal Corporation on this matter.
