Asansol: For the second time in a week, the Enforcement Directorate (EDI) has summoned police officer Manoraj Mandal to Kolkata's SIGO complex in connection with a corruption case. He has been directed to appear on Saturday morning, reports central agency sources.
In the same situation, sand trader Praveer Dutt, resident of Durgapur, has been summoned. Praveer Dutt is said to have called for the first time.
Earlier last Monday (February 9), ED had called the CGO complex and sent it to the coal businessmen of Raniganj and Durgapur, namely Chinmaya Mandal and Kiran Khan. Even though Manoranjan Mandal was summoned that day, he did not appear, claims ED sources. That's why he was called again on Saturday.
ED arrested Chinmaya Mandal and Kiran Khan late on Monday night. Allegedly, he was non-cooperative and avoided answering several questions. They were produced before the court the next day and taken into ED custody till 18th February.
The investigation department considers it unprecedented to summon a police officer and a sand trader while two art traders are in custody.
Incidentally, with the coal smuggling case under scanner last Tuesday, Manoranjan Mandal was removed from the post of SI of Budbud police station of Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate. He has been brought back to Commissionerate SB (Special Branch)-E. According to the directive signed by the Police Commissioner, the order dated 27th January to send him to the post of OC of Budbud police station is being cancelled.
In his place, Kalyaneshwari Police Station IC Laltu Kumar Pakhira has been given the responsibility as the new OC of Budbud police station.
Note that on February 3, ED conducted a raid at the house of Manoranjana Mandal in Durgapur. On that day, a total of 9 places were searched. The operation is said to be based on the leads of a new coal smuggling case filed in Kolkata.
Now let's see whether Manoranjan Mandal will appear at SIGO Complex on Saturday for the second phase and what new information comes to light in the investigation.State
