Fearless Bengali: In order to make the proposed nationwide strike on 12th February successful on the call of Central Labor Organization, a road meeting was organized in support of the strike under the initiative of Joint Action Committee at Satgram Incline under ICL-Satgram-Sripur area on Friday. Senior leaders of various labor organizations associated with the Central Labor Organization were present in this meeting. While giving a speech at the meeting, the labor leaders called upon the workers to actively participate in the strike on 12th February. HMS leader Sintu Bhuwiya said, “This movement is not limited to mere demands. It has now turned into a decisive struggle for the survival of the workers. Everyone will have to unitedly join this struggle.” The leaders of the Pathasbhaha labor organization raised several allegations against the central government. They claim that a conspiracy is underway to take away the workers' rights to protest and strike by introducing a new labor code. The speakers clearly stated that immediate repeal of the four new labor laws is one of the main demands of this movement. According to him, canceling the previously existing labor laws and consolidating them into only four laws is against the interests of the workers. The speakers also demanded an end to the increasing privatization and contractualization of the coal industry. There is a demand to get all the work including mining production done through permanent workers and to stop commercial mining completely. Labor leaders, referring to the issue of nationalization of the coal industry during the time of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, said that with the rapid privatization going on at present, the existence of government coal mines may become extinct in the future.
