fearless bangla, February 5, 2026: Kolkata: Ahead of the election year, one big announcement after another in the interim budget of the West Bengal government. Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya presented this budget in the State Assembly on Thursday. Many important decisions have been taken in the budget in the interest of people from different sections of the society, especially women and state government employees. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced to increase the monthly allowance by Rs 500 under the popular 'Lakshmee Bhandar' scheme, which will be effective from the month of February. As a result of this announcement- General category women will get Rs 1,500 instead of Rs 1,000 per month. Allowance for women of Fahasili caste (SC) and Fahasili sub-caste (ST) categories has been increased from ₹1,200 to ₹1,700. According to government statistics, at present about 2 crore 21 lakh women in the state are availing the benefits of Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme. Apart from this, a significant increase in DA of state government employees and increase in allowance of ASHA employees has been announced in the budget, which has brought relief to various sections. These multiple public-facing announcements just before the assembly elections are being considered as a “masterstroke” of the TMC government in the political circles.
