According to administration sources, on 13 October last year, 14 fishermen from Kultali boarded a trawler named 'FB Shubhayatha' and went for deep sea fishing. On October 19, the trawler's engine broke down in the middle of the sea and it entered Bangladeshi waters. Bangladesh Navy arrested them on charges of trespassing and sent them to jail under the orders of Bagerhat District Court. Later, the issue was resolved through discussion at a diplomatic level. The fishery exchange process was completed on Thursday in the presence of coast guard forces of the two countries in India-Bangladesh waters. India got back a total of 23 people of fishermen, in return 115 people of Bangladeshi fishermen were handed over to their country. Return 23 people among Indian fishermen, 14 people are residents of Kakdwip, Kultali and Hooghly. The remaining 9 people are residents of Andhra Pradesh. On this day, the fishermen were handed over to their families at Fraserganj port in the presence of the Governor of Kakdwip, Preetam Saha, senior police and coast guard officials. There is a flood of joy in the families of fishermen after getting their loved ones back. The emotional fishermen, who were able to return home after a long time, thanked the government and administration.
