Asansol: BJP Rajya Sabha MP and West Bengal BJP President Shamik Bhattacharya has strongly criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's reaction to the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash. He described the Chief Minister's remarks as "unfortunate" and "not in keeping with the dignity of the post of Chief Minister".
Shamik Bhattacharya said that politicizing such a tragic incident is not only wrong but has also damaged the image of West Bengal in the entire country. He said, "It is unacceptable to link such a tragic accident with politics, not only in West Bengal, but in any state or village. This has brought a bad name to Bengal in the entire country."
Speaking on the Singur issue, Bhattacharya also raised questions on the state government's claims of industrial revival. Specifically referring to the proposed warehouses of e-commerce companies Flipkart and Amazon, he said that warehouses cannot be called industries. “Flipkart and Amazon's warehouses are by no means an example of industrial development,” he said.
Bhattacharya alleged that the current development model in Singur is limited to the service sector only and is not creating permanent or skilled employment opportunities. "As it stands today, it is completely service-sector based. The young generation of the state is being forced to become delivery boys. This is what is being painted for the future of West Bengal," he said.
He warned that if there is no change in the direction of real industrial development in the state, this situation will continue. “As long as this government remains in power, this trend will continue,” Shamik Bhattacharya said.
