Standing by the flood-affected people of the Bhutni area in Malda, which has been devastated by the extreme wrath of nature, the district's industrial and business community has come forward. Due to continuous rainfall and all-consuming river erosion, lakhs of people in three gram panchayats of Bhutni are still spending their days marooned. As multiple areas have been completely submerged, road communication has naturally become practically severed. Currently, boats have become the only reliable means for transporting food items and traveling to the distressed people. In this critical situation, the district administration had appealed to people from all walks of life to extend a helping hand to ensure an adequate supply of relief to the flood victims. Responding unprecedentedly to that appeal from the administration, various business organizations of Malda stepped forward.
Last Sunday, relief materials collected through the joint initiative of several prominent business organizations, including the Malda Merchant Chamber of Commerce, the Malda Merchant Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Bankim Chandra Byabosaee Samiti, were officially handed over to the district administration. Around 12 noon on that day, multiple vehicles loaded with adequate relief materials departed for Bhutni under strict security from the Malda district administrative building premises, so that the assistance could reach the people's doorstep in the shortest possible time.
Present on behalf of the administration and the business community for this humanitarian initiative were Malda District Magistrate Rajnveer Singh Kapur, Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly and Englishbazar MLA Amlan Bhaduri, prominent businessmen Ujjwal Saha, Uttam Basak, and other dignitaries. The relief handover phase was completed in the presence of senior administrative officials and local public representatives. Giving importance to the immediate needs of the flood-affected people, the sent relief materials include adequate rice, pulses, potatoes in wholesale quantities (50 kg sacks), essential baby food keeping children in mind, and mosquito nets for protection against mosquitoes. The district administration is optimistic that the flood-affected people of Bhutni will find some relief through this cooperation from the businessmen.
